Leonard Carr

Meet Leonard Carr

Leonard Carr is a Clinical Psychologist, author, speaker, and founder of the Psychology of Shalom, an integrative framework exploring psychological maturity, dignity, emotional responsibility, and relational harmony.

For more than four decades, he has worked with individuals, couples, families, organisations, and communities, helping people navigate relationships, conflict, grief, trauma, identity, and personal transformation. His work brings together depth psychology, systems thinking, attachment theory, moral philosophy, and Jewish wisdom traditions to cultivate greater wholeness, sovereignty, and meaningful connection.

Leonard’s approach is grounded in the belief that psychological health involves more than symptom reduction. It requires the development of inner coherence, truthful living, emotional maturity, and the capacity to sustain healthy and dignified relationships.

In addition to psychotherapy, Leonard has extensive experience in mediation, professional supervision, leadership consultation, workshops, and forensic and medico-legal work. Over the course of his career, he has consulted in hundreds of complex legal and relational matters and contributed to public discourse through radio, print media, teaching, and speaking engagements.

As a communicator, he has engaged the public for decades. His voice has been shared through Shrink Rap for The Times, a monthly column for Jewish Life, two radio shows, and regular contributions to the Jerusalem Report, Jerusalem Post, Marie Claire, Femina, EWN Online, and various corporate publications.

His writing explores themes such as conflict, shame, grief, narcissism, attachment, appreciative living, psychological sovereignty, and the cultivation of Shalom as both a psychological and ethical orientation toward life.

Leonard lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Across every platform, the message remains constant:

Human beings are designed for Shalom — wholeness, dignity, and deep connection.

When we reclaim our birthright to live with purpose and presence, we contribute to the creation of a world where peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the vibrant expression of harmony, belonging, and hope.

My Mission

To restore Shalom—wholeness and harmony—in individuals, families, organisations, and society through education, healing, and inspired leadership.
